Gutter machine in a truck forming a seamless aluminum gutter

What “seamless” means and how the gutters are made

A seamless gutter is formed on site. The installer backs a truck with a roll-forming machine up to the house, feeds a coil of pre-finished aluminum, steel or copper through it, and runs out each gutter to the exact length of that section of roof. The only joints are at corners, end caps and downspout outlets. Sectional gutters come in 10-foot lengths and are joined with connectors and sealant every few feet.

That matters here. The airport records 159.7 nights a year at or below 32°F (NOAA 1991–2020 normals), and every freeze-thaw cycle works on every sealed joint. Most companies form K-style; half-round and box profiles are available from some shops for historic or commercial work.

5-inch or 6-inch: sizing gutters for monsoon bursts

Colorado Springs is not a rainy city (15.91 inches a year at the airport); it has a monsoon pattern. July (3.12 in.) and August (2.96 in.) are the wettest months, together carrying 6.08 inches, about 38 percent of the year’s total, on 6.4 rain days each (NOAA 1991–2020 normals). Those are short, intense afternoon thunderstorms; a gutter that sits nearly dry in December (0.23 in.) has to swallow a cloudburst in minutes.

Five-inch K-style is the standard residential size and handles most single-story and modest two-story homes with enough downspouts. Six-inch holds considerably more water per foot and takes a 3x4 downspout instead of the usual 2x3. Installers tend to recommend it for steep roofs that shed water fast, large or complex roofs where several planes drain into one run, long runs with few outlets, and metal roofs. The upgrade adds about $3–$5 per foot (HomeAdvisor, 2026).

Ask about pitch as well as width. A level gutter does not drain; one pitched too steeply looks crooked from the street. Good installers set a slight fall toward each downspout and snap a chalk line before hanging. Our how it works page walks through a typical install day.

Aluminum, steel or copper

Aluminum is the default: it does not rust, it is light enough for standard fascia, it comes in dozens of baked-enamel colors to match trim or an HOA palette, and it is the least expensive to form on site. Its weakness is denting. The region has taken 3-inch hail more than once in the past decade (June 13, 2018 over Fountain and south Colorado Springs; 3- to 4-inch stones at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on August 6, 2018), and aluminum shows it. Thickness is specified by coil gauge, and heavier coil resists dents and ladder damage better; ask for the gauge in writing and compare quotes on the same number.

Galvanized or galvalume steel is heavier and stiffer, holds its shape under snow and ice better, and shrugs off smaller hail. It costs more per foot and can eventually rust at cut edges and scratches. It is a common choice on the Palmer Divide and in Woodland Park, where snow sliding off a roof can tear a light gutter loose.

Copper is the premium option, usually seen on older homes in Manitou Springs or on custom builds. It never needs paint, develops a patina and lasts for decades, at several times the price of aluminum.

All three are metal, which matters on the west side, in Black Forest and in Woodland Park: Colorado’s 2025 Wildfire Resiliency Code calls for noncombustible gutters and downspouts in wildland-urban interface areas. Local adoption in Colorado Springs, El Paso County and Teller County is unconfirmed as of this writing, so ask your installer and the fire department; vinyl would not qualify. See the wildfire code explainer.

Seamless gutter prices in Colorado Springs

ItemTypical range
Seamless aluminum gutters, installed, per linear foot$4–$9 (HomeAdvisor) to $7–$13 (Fixr); Colorado Springs directory $5.80–$10.20
Steel (galvanized/galvalume), per ft$7–$12

6-inch instead of 5-inchabout $3–$5 more per ft

Typical ranges from HomeAdvisor (2026), Fixr (2025) and a Colorado Springs cost directory (2025) — estimates, not quotes.

What moves a quote within those bands: roof height and access, the number of corners and downspouts, 6-inch versus 5-inch, color, and whether old gutters come down first. The cost guide has a calculator and the full breakdown.

What a good seamless gutter quote spells out

  • Material, gauge and width: aluminum coil of a stated thickness, 5-inch or 6-inch K-style, color named.
  • Hanger type and spacing: hidden hangers screwed into the fascia are standard; the quote should say how far apart they go. Closer spacing holds snow and ice better.
  • Downspout count, size and locations, plus whether extensions or splash blocks are included (see downspouts and drainage).
  • Removal and disposal of existing gutters, and any fascia repair.
  • Warranties in writing: the manufacturer’s finish warranty and the installer’s workmanship warranty, with their terms.
  • Proof of liability insurance and workers’ comp from the company itself.

Permits and licensing for gutter work

Colorado has no state contractor license for gutters. The Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD) licenses only work that requires a permit, has no gutter license class, and gutters do not appear in its permit lists, so stand-alone gutter work generally needs no PPRBD permit or license; confirm with PPRBD for your project. Gutters installed as part of a re-roof follow the roofing rules: a PPRBD permit for more than 100 square feet, a D-1 roofing contractor unless an owner-occupant does the work, and an ice barrier above 7,000 feet. See gutter replacement and the permit explainer.

Colorado Springs Gutter Installation does not install gutters. The independent companies you hear from through the quote form measure the house, write the quote and do the work; comparing two or three itemized quotes on the points above is the simplest protection you have.

Seamless gutter FAQ

Are seamless gutters worth it compared with sectional gutters?

For most Colorado Springs homes, yes. Sectional gutters have a joint every ten feet or so, and each joint is a place for sealant to fail after 159.7 freezing nights a year (NOAA 1991–2020 normals, Colorado Springs airport). A seamless run is one piece from corner to corner, so the only joints are at corners, end caps and downspout outlets. Ask for the price of both if you want to compare; the per-foot difference is usually small.

Should I choose 5-inch or 6-inch gutters in Colorado Springs?

Five-inch K-style handles most single-story and modest two-story roofs. Six-inch carries noticeably more water and pairs with 3x4 downspouts, which matters here because July (3.12 in.) and August (2.96 in.) deliver their rain in short afternoon bursts rather than steady drizzle. Steep, large or complex roofs, and long runs with few downspouts, are the usual reasons an installer recommends 6-inch. Expect about $3–$5 more per foot.

Do seamless gutters have seams at the corners?

Yes. Seamless means the straight runs are formed in one continuous piece on site, but inside and outside corners are still joined with a miter that is riveted and sealed. Corners, end caps and downspout outlets are where leaks start on any gutter, so ask how the corners will be made (strip miter versus box miter) and what sealant is used. A written warranty should name those joints.

Does seamless gutter installation include downspouts?

Usually the quote includes downspouts, elbows and the straps that hold them to the wall, but not always extensions, splash blocks or buried drains. Read the itemized quote: it should list gutter footage and width, downspout count and size (2x3 or 3x4), hanger type and spacing, color, and whether old gutters are removed and hauled away. If a line is missing, ask before signing rather than after.
